Gate repairs

Update at 29 June 2023:

The Dock Gate needs repairing, which is why it is lowered. It means that for now the water levels will change according to the tides. Importantly, commercial and leisure vessels can continue to use the Port as usual, and the position of the gate doesn’t affect the amount of water in the marina or the canal. We continue to work as hard as we can with all related partners to progress the repairs. And to liaise with and update various organisations.

Update at 01 June 2023:

We operate the 15m wide gate that gives access to the inner dock. The gate is more than 35 years old and we need to carry out some repairs to it. We estimate the repairs will take at least 6 weeks, but this could be longer.

The gate will have to be lowered during the repairs and people will notice a change in water levels in the dock. We’re liaising with the Environment Agency, as the gate forms part of the sea defences for the area. The Environment Agency will decide on the best way to manage flood risk while the repairs are ongoing. This may involve using temporary flood defences if required.
