As a Trust Port, part of our role is to conserve and protect the heritage of our port. We’re working hard to hand it on to the next generation in safer and better shape.
One proposed project at the centre of this role is the conservation of Harbour House, which sits within the Conservation Area and is a Non-designated Heritage Asset.
We invited you to submit views on plans for this important building at the heart of the Port here at Glasson Dock. Our short survey focused on the options for reinstating its role as an important part of the economic and cultural vitality of Glasson Dock.

“On behalf of the Port of Lancaster Commissioners, a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to complete our survey. We are delighted with what is clearly overwhelming support from our local stakeholders for the Port as a whole, as well as for the Harbour House project. We look forward to exploring future opportunities to strengthen this positive connection with the local community. As the current custodians of the Port, we want to build on its rich heritage and play our small part in making Glasson Dock an even greater place to live, work and visit.”
Survey Results
We are thrilled to say that the response to our invitation to submit views was overwhelmingly positive. Respondents placed a particular focus on:
– using Harbour House as a home for our heritage archive
– providing facilities for our community of seafarers
– connecting with other organisations in the area
– providing facilities for local residents and businesses, which complement what’s already available
– encouraging more visits from tourists

The seventeen-page document collates every response received online and via post during the survey period. Responses were anonymous so they are identified by the date received in the report.
